It’s 2013, And They’re Burning ‘Witches’
by Lorenzo Piccoli
Two pictures from freelancers Jo Chandler and Vlad Sokhin’s reportage on Papua New Guinea, where belief in black magic persists and women are blamed, accused of sorcery and branded as witches.
First is a photo of Angela, naked, gashed and burned, surrounded by the torpid crowd. Second is a photo of the gang “Dirty Dons 585”, who admit to rapes and armed robberies in the Port Moresby area.
