I love making list: I suppose it is a coping strategy to keep my memory alive. Yesterday I made a list of the movies that I watched over the last twelve months or so. There is one feat that should strike you right away. I am not talking about my crabbed handwriting.
All the movies I recently watched were directed by white men. Why is it? I tend to pick very mainstream movies. And a recent report by the University of Southern California shows that 96% (!) of the 1,200 highest-grossing films of the last decade were directed by men. So there are 46 female directors out of 1,200.
And they are mostly white. In fact, out of 1,200 Hollywood directors there are only 4 black women (0.33%). According to the latest US census, black women are 12% of the US population.
