Australians again, the Irishman, surf and Guggenheim

I spent one afternoon at the Guggenheim, which is beatiful. I usually do not go crazy for modern art, but this one was great. I was amazed by Boltanski’s Humans and by the whole exhibition on David Hockney – una vision mas ampia – foto polaroid, pitture e iPad dei paesaggi Yorkshire.

Yesterday I went to the beach of Sopelana and surfed for the whole day. In the morning it was just bad, really bad, in the late afternoon it turned great.

In these days of lone travelling I met several interesting dudes. One Australian guy was so drunk that was kicked out from the hostel and taken by the police. After that I chatted till 2 with an Irishman from Belfast who used to belong to IRA. A truly fascinating person.

Bilbao – BBK Live

End of the blackout. On Wednesday I flew from Bruxelles to Santander. I spent one night there, then I moved to Kobetamendi, just over Bilbao, where I attended the BBK Live.

Before sharing some thoughts on that, I will just add a brief final note on Bruxelles. Looking back to the past there are so many interesting people I met and then only rarely I have been able to keep the relation going over time. I hope I can stay in touch with some of the people I’ve met in Bruxelles.

Now a comment on the Basque Country. The BBK was as good as expected. I went to see The Gift, The Band of Skulls, Ben Howard, The Cure, Blic Party, Noah and the Whale, Mumford and Sons, Radiohead, Keane, Garbage, Sum 41. I camped with five friends I met there. We had no shower, no electricity for four days: just heaps of Red Bull – and other stuff. I am now in a small pension in Bilbao and have no plans but wandering about this beautiful place for the next few days.
